Napoli’s players gather around their own penalty area. Moreover it is interesting to notice how Napoli intentionally creates a strong side (four players on the left side) and a weak side (two players on the right side).
But what is even more interesting is to observe how Napoli clears the midfield and lines up at the edges of a hypothetical square, delimited by the touch-lines, the goal line and the opponent’s defence line, in order to gain numerical advantage in different areas of the pitch.
The above players’ line-up neutralises the two Sampdoria players positioned half way through 7-11, making Napoli gain, thanks to the disposition on the pitch, superiority in three areas:
- Nearby the penalty area (5 vs 3)
- On the right wing, chain 2/7 + 8 (2 vs 1)
- On Napoli’s left wing (Sampdoria’s right defensive midfielder with 10 + 11 located behind Sampdoria’s player)
